Our Story
The dream of Upstaging Interiors was born in 2018 thanks to a newborn baby and reality tv. (Ok, stick with me). My daughter, Ruth, was born in March of that year with Down syndrome. A friend recommended that my husband and I watch a reality tv show that featured a group of adults with Down syndrome living in Los Angeles. The series follows each person as they work, start businesses, enjoy friendships, live independently, get married, and lead full lives–and it inspired my vision of the kind of life that was possible for my baby girl.
Later that year I staged my first property for a family member as Ruth crawled around, played with toys, and napped while I worked. I discovered how much I loved staging and knew that eventually I wanted to start my own staging business. In 2021 I began staging model homes for another company and during that time, I learned about a local organization that connected adults with disabilities with employment opportunities. I partnered with that organization and hired workers to help with furniture moving and assembly. This is when I realized I could combine my love of staging homes with my desire to create opportunities for adults with disabilities, and the vision for Upstaging was born.
What I love most about staging is the way it creates value. It helps home sellers market their property at its highest potential, increasing its appeal and maximizing the home's listed price. It casts a vision for buyers on how to use a space to maximize its functionality for their families. And when staging jobs create meaningful work for individuals with disabilities, it celebrates the value of people with all levels of skills and abilities. Upstaging Interiors officially launched in 2025, and as we grow our mission is to be leaders in creating the kind of world I hope my daughter grows into–where others share in this vision, and nothing is off limits to her.
